Ripples on the Lake

The lake shimmers in autumn colours;
Reflections of trees light the sparkling water

A cool breeze carries orange leaves
And flowery scents across the lake

My picnic basket is replete with many foods,
Including tuna sandwiches and sweet apple cider

A canoe floats nearby
Like a cloud on the calm water

I paddle out to the middle of the lake,
Where I am assailed by the urge
To dip my hands in the permeable mirror

It’s cold at first, and the impact creates small ripples
That look like the wrinkles on my
Aged face.
